BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College men's lacrosse team hauled in numerous honors in postseason awards handed out by the New England Small College Athletic Conference this week.
In addition to six All-NESCAC honorees, senior
Jed Hoggard (Acton, Mass.) was named the NESCAC Defensive Player of the Year and head coach
Bill Mason, along with assistant coaches
Donal Mullane,
Steve Gilbert, and Tom McCabe were named the NESCAC Coaching Staff of the Year.
All-NESCAC honorees included First-Teamers
Patrick Fitzgerald (Chevy Chase, Md.),
Casey Ryan (San Diego, Calif.),
Jack Pyne (Cohasset, Mass.), and Hoggard.
Jason Lach (Washington, D.C.) and
Chris Berry (Chevy Chase, Md.) were named Second Team All-NESCAC selections.
Fitzgerald is easily the NESCAC's leading goal scorer this season, totaling 62 heading into the conference semifinals – nine more than any other player in the league – while also leading the conference with 75 points. Ryan spearheaded the Bowdoin offense with 49 assists, second most in the league, while adding 22 goals on the year.
Defensively Pyne and Hoggard teamed to lead a Bowdoin defense that has permitted a league-low 133 goals this season. Hoggard leads Bowdoin with 63 ground balls and 28 caused turnovers while scoring five goals and seven assists. Pyne boasts 11 caused turnovers and 26 ground balls on the year.
Lach became the all-time leading goal scorer in program history this season and enters the NESCAC championship weekend with 195 in his career. He has scored 34 this season with 13 assists while also grabbing 32 ground balls.
Chris Berry had a breakout sophomore year, finishing third on the team with 26 goals while adding nine assists.
Coach
Bill Mason and his staff led Bowdoin to another phenomenal season in 2025, ending the year ranked among the top five teams in Division III. The Polar Bears were 12-2 in the regular season and advanced to the NESCAC semifinals as the second seed in the conference. It is the second time that Mason has been named the NESCAC Coach of the Year, as he has a stellar 56-16 record through his first four years at Bowdoin, the most wins in a four-year stretch in program history.
Bowdoin will face Wesleyan in the NESCAC semifinals on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at Tufts University.
