Men's Lacrosse Races Past Hope in NCAA Quarterfinal Win

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College men's lacrosse team never trailed in a dominating 20-7 win over Hope College in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III Tournament Friday night at Whittier Field. The Polar Bears (19-1) set a new school record for wins and advance to the national semifinals Saturday night at Whittier Field against the winner of RIT and Babson at 7:00 p.m. Hope ends its season with its only loss of the year and a mark of 20-1.
 
Game Highlights
  • Huck Trafton and Casey Ryan got the Polar Bears going with goals in the first 2:33 of the contest.
  • After Hope got one back at 10:21 of the first, Bowdoin took over, outscoring the Dutchmen 8-1 over the remainder of the opening half.
  • The key to the surge was Bowdoin winning 13 of 14 faceoffs in the first half, as Huck Trafton, Troy Ulisney, and Hudson Greene each scored twice as the Polar Bears opened up a 10-2 edge at the break.
  • The Polar Bears extended their lead to 12-2 with tallies from Greene and Chris Berry to start the second half before Hope rolled off three straight to cut the lead to 12-5, with 5:21 left in the third.
  • All hopes of a comeback were put to bed by a 4-0 Bowdoin run that increased the lead to 16-5 on a goal by Owen Majit with 13:54 remaining.
By The Numbers
  • Bowdoin owned a huge advantage in shots (64-21) and faceoffs (26-5) in the victory.
  • Huck Trafton paced Bowdoin with four goals and an assist while Troy Ulisney (three goals, one assist), Hudson Greene (three goals, one assist), and Sam Raye-Steiner (two goals, two assists) had four point games.
  • Cam Wietfeldt (8-9), Alex Choi (5-6), and Phoenix Kelly-Zuckerman (12-15) controlled the faceoff spot for the Polar Bears in the win.
  • Defensively Alex Byrne had seven ground balls and a caused turnovers while Colin Campbell had four ground balls and a caused turnover. Alec Delgado made six saves in 55 minutes of play in net.
  • The Polar Bears will be making their third straight trip to the national semifinals, becoming the first Bowdoin program to make three consecutive NCAA semifinal appearances since men's tennis from 2016-18.
