Men's Lacrosse Season Ends in NCAA Semifinal Loss to RIT

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College men's lacrosse team saw its most successful season in program history come to an end in the national semifinals Saturday night at Whittier Field as the Polar Bears dropped a 16-12 decision to RIT.

The Tigers (19-4) advance to the national title game next Sunday, May 24. The Polar Bears (19-2) end their year with a school-record 19 wins and their third straight NCAA semifinal appearance.

Game Highlights
  • Bowdoin led 2-1 in the early going on goals from Hudson Greene and Sam Raye-Steiner, but a three-goal run to end the opening quarter, including consecutive scores from David Charney, gave the Tigers a 3-2 edge heading into the second.
  • Casey Ryan's 70th goal of the season cut the lead to 4-3 just a minute into the frame, but RIT wrested control of the game after that, outscoring Bowdoin 6-1 over the final 12:16 of the period to take a 10-4 edge at the break.
  • The Polar Bears came within five goals on two occasions in the second half – at 11-6 and 15-10 – but couldn't cut into the lead further as each time the Tigers replied before a Ryan goal with 1:58 cut the final margin to four.
  • Bowdoin outscored RIT 6-1 over the final 15:05 of the contest but couldn't dig out of the hole in just their second loss of the campaign.
By The Numbers

  • Five different RIT players scored at least two goals, led by Ryan Sanders' five tallies.
  • Casey Ryan scored four goals with two assists, finishing his spectacular season with 125 points, the most in a season in school history, on 73 goals, the second most in a season, and 52 assists, third most in a season.
