Athletics at Bowdoin has changed significantly over the years, but the tradition of success remains the same. Polar Bear teams and individual athletes have accounted for 26 national championships over the decades, beginning with Fred Tootell's 1923 national title in the hammer throw to Tristan Bradley's triumph as the NCAA Division III men's tennis singles champion in 2024.
