BRUNSWICK, Maine – Ten members of the Bowdoin men's lacrosse team have been recognized in USILA All-American and NEILA All-New England honors announced on Wednesday.
In USILA Division III All-American honors, junior attack
Casey Ryan (San Diego, Calif.), junior defender
Nico Schermer (Bethesda, Md.), and senior long stick midfielder
Alex Byrne (Darien, Conn.) were all recognized as First Team All-Americans. Additionally, Schermer was named the William Stiles Outstanding Defenseman of the Year in Division III while Byrne was named the Long Stick Midfielder of the Year.
Junior attackman
Chris Berry (Chevy Chase, Md.), and faceoff specialist
Cam Wietfeldt (New Canaan, Conn.) were recognized as Second Team All-Americans while sophomore goaltender
Alec Delgado (New Vernon, N.J.) was recognized as a Third Team All-American.
Senior midfielder
Sam Raye-Steiner (Chatham, Mass.), senior short stick midfielder
Colin Campbell (Cape Elizabeth, Maine), junior midfielder
Huck Trafton (York, Maine), and sophomore defender
Brooks Kitchel (Bethesda, Md.) were all named Honorable Mention All-Americans.
In All-New England honors,
Casey Ryan was named the NEILA Player of the Year while head coach
Bill Mason was named NEILA Coach of the Year. Ryan, Berry, Schermer, Byrne, and Wietfeldt were named First Team All-New England. Delgado captured Second Team honors, Kitchel was named a Third Team All-New England choice, and Raye-Steiner earned Honorable Mention recognition.
The Polar Bears finished a fantastic season with a record of 19-2, advancing to the semifinals of the NCAA Championship for the third straight year.
