BRUNSWICK, Maine -
Alex Byrne '26 (Darien, Conn.) has been named a First Team Academic All-American by the College Sports Communicators in honors announced last week.
Byrne, an Economics major who entered the spring semester with a 3.92 GPA, was recognized as the Long Stick Midfielder of the Year in Division III, garnering First Team All-American honors for the Polar Bears (19-2) who finished as NCAA semifinalists. He is the first men's lacrosse player in Bowdoin's history to be named First Team Academic All-American.
The
CSC Academic All-America program, selected by
College Sports Communicators, recognizes the nation's top collegiate student-athletes for their combined athletic and academic successes. Honorees must maintain elite cumulative GPAs and be significant contributors to their respective teams across all NCAA levels in order to qualify. Byrne joins men's soccer senior Tyler Huck as a fellow First Team Academic All-American for the 2025-26 academic year. It is the first time since 1992-93 that Bowdoin has had multiple First Team Academic All-Americans: Eileen Hunt (track & field) and Michael Turmelle (football).Â
