BRUNSWICK, Maine – Four members of the Bowdoin College field hockey team have been recognized in All-Region honors announced by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association.
Georgie Coetzer (Johannesburg, South Africa),
Maddie Ferrucci (Essex, Conn.) and
Faith Jennings (Ghent, N.Y.) were named First Team All-Region honorees while
Abby Bashaw (West Newbury, Mass.) was named Second Team All-Region. The Polar Bears finished a fantastic season with a record of 16-5, advancing to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III Tournament.
Coetzer and Ferrucci back-lined a fantastic Polar Bear defense this fall that allowed just an average of 1.04 goals/game this season. Among goaltenders, Ferrucci's 74 saves ranked among the NESCAC's best, as did her 1.28 goals-against-average and .771 save percentage. At defense, Coetzer helped the Polar Bears to ten shutouts on the season and also contributed on Bowdoin's penalty corners, adding three goals and four assists.
Faith Jennings enjoyed a breakout campaign up front for Bowdoin, pacing the team and ranking among the conference leaders with 18 goals and nine assists on the season. She posted a pair of hat tricks, both in NESCAC matches against Wesleyan and Conn. College, and had a trio of game-winning-goals.
Abby Bashaw rounds out the Bowdoin honorees with a Second Team All-Region selection. Bashaw was the Polar Bears' anchor in the midfield, contributing on both ends of the field and finishing the season with two goals, including the game-winner in an NCAA win vs. Centre, and ended third on the team lead with seven assists.
