BABSON PARK, Mass. – The Bowdoin field hockey team saw its season come to an end in a hard fought 2-1 setback to third-ranked Babson on Saturday afternoon in the NCAA Second Round.
The Polar Bears end the year at 10-8 overall and qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2021. The Beavers extend their season at 21-1 and post a pair of one-goal wins over Bowdoin in the 2025 season.
Game Highlights
- Babson wasted little time in getting on the board. Caroline DiGiovanni ran onto a ball that was moving from the stroke line toward the top of the circle. DiGiovanni made an off-balance turn around drive to send the ball through the middle of traffic and right into the Bowdoin cage at 2:22.
- The Polar Bears were in control during the final five minutes of the first period with four shots and three corners, but were unable to connect.
- Midway through the second quarter Bowdoin converted on a corner to make 1-1. Fei Yang-Sady pushed a ball toward goal from the top right edge of the circle, allowing Emily Ferguson to get a touch. Ferguson's deflection tipped up and over the Babson defense.
- Despite playing down for the majority of the third quarter, Babson converted on just their second corner of the game with seconds remaining in the frame. Grace Mullaney snuck a no-angle reverse sweep into the net from the left endline.
By the Numbers
- The teams both put seven shots on net. Bowdoin held a narrow 10-8 edge in overall shots.
- The Polar Bears earned six corners and allowed three.
- Lauren O'Donald made five saves for Bowdoin.
- Madison Tibbals made five saves as well.
