MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Bowdoin College men's golf team opened its 2026-27 season with a seventh-place finish in a deep and talented 20-team field at the Duke Nelson Invitational, hosted by Middlebury College at Ralph Myhre Golf Course this weekend.
The Polar Bears made a strong move on Sunday, improving by 11 strokes relative to par from their opening round and climbing four spots in the team standings to finish at 615 (+47) for the weekend.
Tournament Highlights
- Bowdoin finished seventh in the 20-team field, posting rounds of 313 (+29) and 302 (+18) for a two-day total of 615 (+47).
- The Polar Bears entered Sunday in 11th place before turning in the fifth-best team round of the final day, moving up four positions in the standings.
- Joey Zheng paced Bowdoin with a two-day total of 150 (+8), tying for 10th overall. Zheng rebounded from a first-round 79 with an even-par 71 on Sunday, the best round of the weekend by a Polar Bear.
- Andrew Flynn and Kaiden Hong both finished tied for 17th at 152 (+10), each carding matching rounds of 76 on Saturday and Sunday.
- Varun Murthy improved three strokes on Sunday with a 79 after an opening-round 82, finishing at 161 (+19), while Matthew Cohen closed at 164 (+22) after rounds of 83 and 81.
- Competing as an individual, Ian Harris also improved significantly on Sunday, following an opening-round 81 with a 76 to finish at 157 (+15).
- Host Middlebury won the team title at +26, followed by Skidmore (+29), Amherst and Tufts (both +35), Wesleyan (+37) and Salem State (+40) ahead of Bowdoin.
