ATLANTA, Ga. – A pair of long-standing school records fell as the Bowdoin outdoor track & field teams split to compete at the Emory Invitational in Georgia and the University of Maine Spring Opener in Orono last weekend.
Charlie Aucoin set a new school record in the men's discus while
Noah Rockey broke a school mark in the men's 400 meters, both at Emory as the Polar Bears posted several outstanding performances.
Men's Weekend Highlights
- Aucoin posted a distance of 50.99 meters in winning the discus at Emory, shattering a decades-old standard of 47.99 set by Scott Dyer in 1995.
- Also at Emory, Noah Rockey 400m ran a school-record time of 48.32 seconds, edging out the previous record of 48.36 held by Chris Downe since 2000. He took third overall in the event.
- Other strong showings in Georgia included Kane Demers winning the long jump (7.09m) and also taking third in the 200m (22.02).
Women's Weekend Highlights
- Kennedy Kirkland won the long jump for Bowdoin with a distance of 5.73 meters while also running sixth in the 100m (12.48) and 11th in the 200m (25.39) in very competitive fields at Emory.
- Mardy Novak won the javelin throw with a distance of 43.20 meters and placed seventh in the discus (36.07m).
- Sophia Young also took a top-five finish in the long jump at 5.15 meters.
- In Orono, Bridget Lopez Valenzuela won the high jump (1.55m), Sophie Maguire took the pole vault (3.30m), and Sonia Katahdin took the shot put (10.09m).
