Box Score MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Bowdoin women's ice hockey team started the season with a commanding 5-1 win over Wesleyan on Friday evening.
The Polar Bears start the year at 1-0-0, both overall and in conference play. The Cardinals have an 0-1-0 record.
Game Highlights
- After a scoreless first period, the teams combined for a total of five goals, four in favor of the Polar Bears. Sara Ito-Bagshaw scored 28 seconds into the frame on a power play opportunity. Ito-Bagshaw skated from the right point into the near circle and wristed a shot past Jenna Guglielmi.
- Bowdoin scored again less than two minutes later. Luna Lu received a pass from Meghan Britt on the left to the high slot. Lu lasered a top right shelf shot.
- Britt scored a short-handed goal midway through the frame, finishing off a scrum in front of the net.
- A minute later, Bella Schifano intercepted a breakout pass right in front of Guglielmi and turned to fire on net.
- The torrid pace of scoring continued as the Cardinals broke through 21 seconds later. Kimberly Jung took a shot from the right point and Beats Tura tipped the puck as it came through.
- Bowdoin's Sofia Nesvold scored her first collegiate goal in the final two minutes with a wrister from the outside edge of the right circle.

- Bowdoin went 1-for-4 on the power play and tallied a short-handed goal.
