Track & Field Teams Sprint To Top Finishes at Coffey Invitational

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – The Bowdoin College women's track & field team placed second and the men placed third at the Carla Coffey Invitational hosted by Smith College last weekend.
 
In a field that included numerous NESCAC teams, the women totaled 142 points to trail only Middlebury (175) while the men's team racked up 115 points to finish behind Tufts (195) and Middlebury (162).
 
Women's Meet Highlights
  • Kianne Bejamin posted double wins, claiming both the 100 (12.12) and 200 (25.13) events for the Polar Bears. Both marks are the best in the NESCAC this spring.  
  • A strong run for Abby Mueller won the 5k (17:46.39) after a lot of early leading, was a 16-second career best.
  • Gracie Sheve won the triple jump with a distance of 10.23m while Corinne Ahern took second in the hammer (43.03m) and third in the javelin (36.42).
  • Rose Jenkins earned an impressive second-place finish in heptathlon debut (3,930 points), a total that ranks fifth all-time at Bowdoin.
  • The women's 4x400 relay team of Catherine Uwakwe, Olivia Rayis, Kennedy Kirkland, and Benjamin took a runner-up finish in 4:05.77.
Men's Meet Highlights
  • Ian Stebbins led the way for the Polar Bears, posting a school-record in the pole vault, winning the event with a height of 4.76m, besting Ryan Durkin's record from 2022 by 1cm. His height in the tops in the NESCAC this season.  
  • Max Russo ran away with a win in the 400 hurdles (54.53), the second best time in the NESCAC this year, while William Warlick was second in the 110 hurdles (14.96).   
  • Kane Demers was second in the 200m (21.95) while Brooks Peters took second in the 1500m (3:56.94), and
  • The 4x400 team had a tight battle with Tufts, posting a time of 3:20.31 to finish as runners-up, courtesy of Jared Joyce, Ronan O'Flaherty, Adepoju Arogundade, and Max Russo.
