BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin sailing team qualified two sailors for the ICSA Singlehanded Nationals for the first time in program history.
Sophomores
Michelangelo Vecchio and
Rebecca Schill earned at-large selections to compete on the national stage in Saint Petersberg, Florida on November 9-10.
Vecchio is the first Bowdoin sailor to ever qualify for the Open Singlehanded Nationals. The sophomore finished fifth at the NEISA Championships and was selected by committee for an at-large bid.
Schill becomes the second Polar Bear to qualify for the Women's Singlehanded Nationals after committee selection following her seventh place NEISA finish.
Christine Reimer '24 was the first Bowdoin sailor to ever compete at the Singlehanded Nationals. Reimer competed in both 2021 and 2022 with seventh and third place finishes. Reimer's third place finish was the highest finish for Bowdoin sailing at any national event.
Schill and Vecchio will compete against 17 other boats over the span of two days to conclude the fall season.
