Bates Narrowly Bests Bowdoin at Men's State Track Championship

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bates College men's track & field team came away with the crown at the Maine State Outdoor Track & Field Championship Saturday at Magee-Samuelson Track on the campus of Bowdoin College.

Bates edged out Bowdoin by just four points, finishing with a team score of 233 over the Polar Bears' 229.

Bowdoin's Yaw Sekyere was named the Alan Hillman Track Athlete of the Meet while John Rex of Bates was recognized as the Fred Tootell Field Athlete at the Championship.

Meet Highlights

  • Sekyere won both the 100M (11.10) and 200M (22.55) races for the Polar Bears on Saturday and anchored Bowdoin's winning 4x100 relay team of Mason Freeman, Owen Tuck and Troy Green to finish in 42.55.
  • Naphtali Moulton won the 10,000M race in a time of 32:36.08 for the Polar Bears.
  • Bowdoin had multiple winners in the field events, including Joseph Staudt in the high jump (6-4.75), Ryan Durkin in the pole vault (14-9.5) and Mason Freeman in the long jump (21-9).
