AMHERST, Mass. - The Bowdoin College men's lacrosse team saw its season come to a close in a 24-16 setback to Amherst in the quarterfinals of the NESCAC Tournament on Saturday afternoon.

The seventh-seeded Polar Bears fall to 8-7 while the second-seeded Mammoths improve to 14-2.

Game Highlights

• The Polar Bears grabbed an early 2-0 lead on goals from James Strabley and Daniel Buckman only to see Amherst even the score moments later.
• Bowdoin rolled off a three straight goals to take a 5-2 lead later in the frame. But the Mammoths scored three times in the final 3:29 of the period to knot the score at 5-5 after one quarter.
• Evan Wolf scored twice to spark a 3-0 surge to give Amherst their first lead of the game, but four different Polar Bears scored to key a 4-1 run to end the half, as Bowdoin tied the score on a Shawn Daly goal, 9-9, just before the break.
• Bowdoin took their final lead of the game on a Brett Kujala goal moments into the third quarter, but Amherst took command from there - outscoring Bowdoin 10-2 over the final 13:12 of the stanza to build a 19-12 advantage.
• Bowdoin could get no closer than six goals in the fourth quarter.

• Shawn Daly led Bowdoin with three goals and three assists. Bradley Ingersoll scored three times for the Polar Bears.
• Amherst was led by seven goals and two assists from Colin Minicus.
• John Young stopped 17 shots for Bowdoin while Chad Simons stopped 15 for Amherst.
• Amherst held a 63-43 edge in shots.
• The Polar Bears went 4-7 with the man-up compared to 2-6 for Amherst.
