BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Bowdoin College women's distance medley relay team posted a dominating victory to claim the national championship on Friday evening at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships.

It was the highlight of the evening for the Polar Bears, who claimed their first crown at indoor nationals since Coby Horowitz won the mile in 2014 and first relay victory at NCAA's since the men's distance medley relay team in 2012.

Women's DMR Highlights

• Seeded seventh headed into the race, the team of Caroline Shipley, Sara Ory, Claire Traum and Sarah Kelley smashed their school-record time by six seconds to finish in 11:37.18, winning by over four seconds.
• Caroline Shipley (3:36 in the 1200M leg) handed off in third place to Sara Ory, who held third place (57.8 seconds in 400M). Claire Traum (2:14 in 800M) maintained the third-place spot for Bowdoin heading into the final leg.
• Senior Sarah Kelley began the final leg 15 meters behind the leader from MIT. Kelley closed the gap after 200 meters and raced into the lead after 300. With 400 meters to go, Kelley began to pull away and finished her 1690 leg in a time of 4:47, winning by 20 meters. 

Other Friday Highlights

• Liam Nicoll missed out on qualifying for the finals of the 800M, finishing 15th in the preliminaries in 1:56.06.
• The men's distance medley relay team of Ben Torda, John Kennealy, Conor Donahue and Sean MacDonald finished in tenth place in a time of 10:03.10.

Saturday Highlights

• Bowdoin's Brian Greenberg will finished ninth in the triple jump for Bowdoin, jumping 14.56m on his third jump of the afternoon.
