Men's Lacrosse Holds Off Trinity For Sixth Straight Win

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College men's lacrosse team won its sixth straight game, picking up a 10-7 win over Trinity at Whittier Field on Saturday afternoon.

The Polar Bears move to 6-2 (3-2 NESCAC) this spring while the Bantams drop to 3-5 (0-4 NESCAC).

Game Highlights

  • The teams traded goals in the opening period, with Bowdoin's game-opening tally from Matthew Crowell being answered by consecutive goals from Trinity's Ben Knaus and Andrew Collins.
  • The Polar Bears evened the score on a Kendall Rogers goal with 10 seconds left in the frame to make it 2-2 after one quarter.
  • Bowdoin took the lead for good in the second quarter, getting goals from Brett Kujala and Jeff Powers - just 16 seconds before the break - to take a 5-3 edge into halftime.
  • After Crowell opened the scoring in the third quarter, Trinity drew within one goal as Knaus and Matt Gardiner found the back of the net within a two-minute span to make it 6-5 Bowdoin.
  • The Polar Bears answered again with goals from Shawn Daly and Tim Bulens to carry an 8-5 lead into the fourth.
  • Trinity came within two goals on two occasions but could get no closer as a Donal Mullane goal with 1:43 remaining put the game away for Bowdoin.

By The Numbers

  • Bowdoin goaltender John Young was excellent, stopping 14 shots on the afternoon.
  • Trinity netminder Woody Hamilton made ten stops for the Bantams.
  • Bowdoin owned a 41-28 advantage in shots and 25-17 edge in ground balls for the game.
  • Sam Carlin was the top faceoff performer, winning 13 of 20 tries for the Polar Bears.
  • Matthew Crowell finished with three goals to lead the Polar Bears, followed by  two from Kujala.
  • Ben Knaus led Trinity with a pair of goals.
