Men's Lacrosse Eases Past Middlebury For Fourth Straight Win

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College men's lacrosse team dominated Middlebury, 17-8, in a NESCAC men's lacrosse contest on Saturday afternoon at Whittier Field.

The Polar Bears have won four straight overall and improve to 4-2 (2-2 NESCAC) with the victory. The Panthers fall to 3-3 (1-3 NESCAC) with the setback.

Game Highlights

  • The teams were tied 4-4 after the opening quarter before Bowdoin took control of the contest with an 11-2 run over the second and third quarters.
  • A.J. Kucinski scored a pair of first-period goals for Middlebury while the Polar Bears featured four different scorers to deadlock the contest after 15 minutes of play.
  • After the teams traded goals to open the second quarter, Bowdoin's Brett Kujala sparked a 4-0 run to end the half, including a pair of goals from Nick Conway, to give the hosts a 9-5 edge at the break.
  • Bowdoin continued to roll in the third quarter, opening the frame on a 6-1 run to put the contest out of reach. Six different Polar Bears scored in the surge that gave Bowdoin a 15-7 lead after three periods en route to the 17-8  win.

  • Brett Kujala keyed the Bowdoin offense with a four-goal effort while Shawn Daly added two goals and three assists.
  • Jimmy Young had a goal and three assists for the Polar Bears while Nick Conway added two goals and two assists.
  • Middlebury was paced by four goals and an assist by A.J. Kucinski. Henry Riehl and Michael McCormack had a goal and an assist each.
  • Sam Carlin was outstanding on the faceoff dot for Bowdoin, winning 19 of 25 on the day.
  • Bowdoin's John Young made 13 saves, allowing eight goals in 57:33 before giving way to Jack O'Connor, who made one stop over the final 2:27.
  • Middlebury's Charles Midgley made just two saves, permitting 15 goals in 41:37 of action. Tyler Bass played the final 18:23, allowing two goals and making three saves.
  • Bowdoin owned a 38-33 edge in shots and went 2-6 with the extra man. Middlebury went 1-2.
