MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Middlebury women's ice hockey team made a first period goal stand and skated to a 1-0 win over visiting Bowdoin on Friday evening.

The sixth-ranked Panthers (9-3-1, 5-1-1 NESCAC), extended Bowdoin's conference woes with the shutout (7-5-1, 1-5-1 NESCAC).

Game Highlights

• Middlebury jumped out to the early lead, scoring 4:07 into the contest with a power play goal. Madie Leidt took the puck coast-to-coast and through a pair of defenders before putting a diving shot past Kerri St. Denis.
• The hosts nearly doubled the lead with just under eight minutes remaining, as Janka Hlinka had two bids from point-blank range turned aside by St. Denis.
• In the final minute of the second period, the Polar Bears had two promising chances on the power play. Maegan Sheehan directed a shot on goal from the right point through traffic that Lin Han blockered aside. Han denied Marissa Fichter from the left side, just seconds later.
• Bowdoin had a good look midway through the third period, when Fichter skated out of the left corner and fired a shot off Han's shoulder. Seconds later, Katie Leininger's tip in front was sticked aside.

By the Numbers

• St. Denis turned away 24 shots for the Polar Bears.
• Han made 27 saves for Middlebury.
• The Panthers went 1-for-2 on the power play.
• Bowdoin was 0-for-3 on the power play.
