Late Surge Leads Men's Lacrosse Over Conn. College

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College men's lacrosse team outscored Connecticut College 5-1 over the final nine minutes to pull away for a 13-9 victory on Saturday afternoon at Ryan Field.

The Polar Bears improve to 7-3 (5-2 NESCAC) while the Camels fall to 5-5 (2-4 NESCAC) with the loss.

Game Highlights

  • The Camels burst out of the gate with the game's first two goals, as Jackson Kleintz buried a pair to give the visitors a 2-0 lead just seven minutes in.
  • Bowdoin answered with a 5-0 run, getting two goals apiece from Matthew Crowell and Tim Bulens in the run, to grab a 5-3 edge early in the second period.
  • The squads traded goals before the break as Bowdoin carried a 6-3 edge into halftime.
  • Bulens and Jeff Powers scored third period goals for the Polar Bears to up the lead to 8-4 heading into the fourth quarter
  • Conn. College opened the final period on fire, scoring four times in a four-minute span to quickly tie the game. Russ Thompson assisted on back-to-back goals as the Camels knotted the contest at 8-8 with 10:06 to go.
  • Bowdoin rebounded, however, rolling off the game's next four goals to put the contest away.
  • Drew Hillman's unassisted goal at 9:03 gave Bowdoin the lead for good and Sam Carlin's ensuing face-off win directly resulted in Brett Kujala's second goal of the game just nine seconds later to give the hosts a two-goal cushion.
  • Crowell and Bulens added insurance goals to put the contest on ice for the Polar Bears, giving them a 12-8 lead with just 2:35 to play.

By The Numbers

  • Tim Bulens led Bowdoin with career-high four goals while Matthew Crowell had three goals and an assist for the Polar Bears. Brett Kujala and Daniel Buckman also had two goals each.
  • Jackson Kleintz ended with three goals while Jordan Foster had two scores. Ross Thompson had a game-high three assists for the Camels.
  • Peter Mumford stopped 12 shots in the victory for Bowdoin while Jameson Hill made 19 stops for Conn. College.
  • Ben Parens won 14 of 25 face-offs for Conn. College while Sam Carlin claimed 11 of 24 for Bowdoin.
  • Bowdoin owned a 51-31 advantage in shots for the game.
