BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Williams College men's outdoor track & field team held off Tufts to defend its New England Small College Athletic Conference Championship on Saturday at Magee-Samuelson Track on the campus of Bowdoin College.

The Ephs scored 175 points to edge the Jumbos (164) for the top spot. Third-place Bowdoin (110) earned its highest finish at the NESCAC Championship since a second-place showing in 2002, followed by Middlebury (102.5), who just slipped by Bates (102) for fourth and fifth, respectively. Colby (63.5), Amherst (32), Hamilton (31), Trinity (14), Wesleyan (13) and Conn. College (12) rounded out the finishers.

Meet Highlights

• Peter Hale led the way for Williams, winning both the 1500m (3:50.34) and 5000m (14:51.23) races for the Ephs.
• Williams also received first-place finishes from Eli Saucier in the 200m (22.03), Magnus Herweyer in the shot put (15.90m) and Christian Holway in the long jump (6.93m). Williams also won the final event of the day, the 4x800 relay in 7:44.69
• Tufts made it close thanks to a trio of facility records from Josh Etkind in 110m hurdles (14.53- also a meet record), Andrew DiMaiti in the 400m hurdles (54.15) and Anthony Kardonsky in the 100m (10.85). Tim Nichols won the 10,000m (30:47.31), Luke O'Connor claimed the 3000m steeplechase (8:58.46) and Stefan Duvivier took the high jump (1.98m) for Tufts.
• Bates' Adedire Fakorede was the other multiple-event winner of the afternoon, winning both the hammer throw (57.83m) and discus (49.60m) for the Bobcats. Bates' Tyler Harrington won the javelin with a toss of 59.91m.
• Middlebury won the 4x400m relay race and received individual wins from Alex Nichols in the 400m (48.43) and John Natalone in the pole vault (4.40m)
• Rounding out the first-place finishers was the host team's Brian Greenberg, who claimed the triple jump for Bowdoin with a school-record distance of 14.60m. Amherst's Kristian Sogaard won the 800m (1:51.94) and Colby claimed the 4x100 meter relay race in 41.81.
