Polar Bears Win Three Events at New England D-III Track & Field

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Bowdoin College outdoor track & field teams recorded several top performances, including three victories, at the New England Division III Championship this weekend at Springfield College.

The Polar Bears had three New England champions, winning both the men's and women's 4x800 meter relays as well as the men's 3000 meter steeplechase.

The Bowdoin men finished in sixth place overall while the Polar Bear women took 21st.

Meet Highlights

  • The men's 4x800 meter relay team of Conor Donahue, James Sullivan, John Kennealy and Jacob Ellis continued their outstanding spring, winning the race in a school and meet-record time of 7:39.02
  • The women's 4x800 relay team of Allyson Fulton, Meghan Bellerose, Demi Feder and Sarah Kelley also continued their stellar season with a winning pace of 9:12.75, claiming the win by a dominating five-second margin
  • Bowdoin sophomore Ben Torda came away with a first-place finish in the 3000 meter steeplechase, finishing in a time of 9:20.61 to take the win by just under three seconds
  • Other top showings for the Polar Bears included Jacob Ellis taking second in the men's 800 meters (1:52.14) and Sarah Kelley taking sixth in the women's 1500 meters (4:36.49)
  • In the field events, John Pietro took sixth in the shot put (14.85m) and seventh in both the discus (41.79m) and hammer throw (50.02m) events

  • The Polar Bears will return to action next weekend with the Open New England Championships at Southern Connecticut State University
