Outdoor Track & Field Opens Home Season With Bowdoin Invitational

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College men's outdoor track & field team placed first while the women's team took second at the home-opening Bowdoin Invitational at Magee-Samuelson track on Saturday afternoon.

Team Scores

  • Bowdoin won the men's meet with 317 points, followed by Maine-Farmington (77), Colby (76), Husson (68) and St. Joseph's (21)
  • The University of Southern Maine won the women's meet with 199 points, just ahead of Bowdoin (164), followed by Husson (80), Colby (56), Maine-Farmington (39) and St. Joseph's (7)

Men's Meet Highlights

  • The Bowdoin men dominated the field on Saturday, winning 14 events in total
  • Brian Greenberg won the long jump (6.59 meters) and triple jump (13.81 meters) while John Pietro claimed the hammer (46.28 meters) and shot put (13.89 meters)
  • Joseph Staudt won the high jump (1.80 meters) and the 110 meter hurdles (15.42)
  • Bowdoin's Thomas Rehnquist took the discus (39.20 meters) to round out the Polar Bear winners in the field events
  • On the track, Bowdoin enjoyed several winners as well, including Latif Armiyaw in the 100 meters (11.76), Harrison Porter in the 400 meters (51.76), John Keneally in the 800 (1:59.29), Matt Jacobson in the 1500 (3:59.40) and Alan Banks in the 400 meters (57.48)
  • Bowdoin also claimed the 4x100 meter relay (44.20) with Andrew Murowchick, Jibrail Coy, Porter and Armiyaw as well as the 4x400 relay (3:37.16) courtesy of Porter, Liam Nicoll, Seamus Power and Jacob Ellis

Women's Meet Highlights

  • Like the men's team, the Bowdoin women were outstanding in the throwing events on Saturday
  • Pamela Zabala won the discus (36.17 meters), Lucy Knott took the hammer (44.73 meters) and Ellen Masalsky won the javelin (38.66 meters)
  • Addison Carvajal won the high jump (1.55 meters)
  • On the track Meghan Bellerose won the 800 meters (2:19.77) and Sara Ory claimed the 400 meter hurdles (1:08.52)
  • The 4x100 meter relay team of Shekinah Pettway, Naomi Jabouin, Ory and Samantha Schaefer took first place (50.62)

  • The Polar Bears will travel to Middlebury, Vt., next Saturday for the Panther Invitational
