Box Score LEWISTON, Maine - The Bowdoin College men's lacrosse team blitzed Bates for seven goals in the fourth quarter en route to an impressive 14-10 win on Wednesday evening at Garcelon Field.
It is another win over a ranked opponent for the 13th-ranked Polar Bears, who rolled to their eighth consecutive victory and improve to 8-1 (5-1 NESCAC). The sixth-ranked Bobcats fall to 8-2 (4-2 NESCAC) with the setback.
Game Highlights
- The teams traded goals in the opening quarter as Bates held a 3-2 advantage after 15 minutes of play
- Bowdoin scored three straight to open the second quarter to open a 5-3 edge, but Bates got a pair of tallies before the break to deadlock the contest at 5-5 heading into the second half
- The teams each had two scores in the third quarter as the contest was tied again heading into the fourth quarter, 7-7
- In the final period, Bowdoin's Brett Kujala and Matthew Crowell took over, combining for five of the Polar Bears' seven goals to take command of the game
- The Polar Bears scored four straight to open the frame, including two from Crowell, to push the lead to 11-7 with 10:46 to go
- After Bates got a pair from Jack Allard to cut the lead to 11-9, Kujala scored twice in a span of 63 seconds to push the lead back to four goals with under four minutes to play
By The Numbers
- Peter Mumford was outstanding in goal for Bowdoin, stopping a season-high 20 shots in the win
- Kujala finished with a game-high five goals while Crowell scored three. Clayton Wright had two goals and two assists for the Polar Bears
- Charlie Fay led Bates with three goals and two assists
- Bates held a 47-35 advantage in shots thanks in great part to numerous extra-man opportunities. The Bobcats were only able to convert on 1-10 with the extra attacker, however, as the Polar Bears held strong
