Box Score BRUNSWICK, Maine - Shawn Daly scored 50 seconds into overtime to lift the Bowdoin College men's lacrosse team to a 9-8 win over Middlebury on Saturday afternoon at Ryan Field.
The Polar Bears knocked off their second straight nationally-ranked opponent and win their fifth straight overall to improve to 5-1 (3-1 NESCAC). The Panthers, ranked ninth in the latest USILA poll, fall to 4-3 (2-2 NESCAC).
Game Highlights
- Trailing 3-2 heading into the second quarter, the Panthers used four straight goals to take a 6-3 lead midway through the frame
- Jon Broome sparked the run with a goal and an assist for Middlebury
- Bowdoin was able to trim the lead to 6-4 at halftime when Shawn Daly put home a Brett Kujala late in the quarter
- The Polar Bears dominated the third period, scoring four times, including two from Kujala
- Bowdoin put an exclamation point on the frame when JC Pardo fed Clayton Wright with a 40-yard pass downfield for a goal with just one second left in the period, giving the hosts an 8-6 advantage heading to the fourth
- Middlebury got a goal from Jack Cleary at 13:47 to cut the Bowdoin lead to 8-7
- The teams remained scoreless until under a minute remaining when Tim Giarrusso put home the game-tying score with 42 seconds remaining and drew a slashing call en route to the score, giving the Panthers a one-minute man-up advantage
- Bowdoin's Sam Carlin won the ensuing faceoff, however, and the Polar Bears held on to the ball for the remainder of regulation and into the overtime session
- Fifty seconds into overtime, Alex Osgood found Daly on the back-post for the game-winning score

- Middlebury held a 39-27 advantage in shots, but Bowdoin's Peter Mumford was up to the task, stopping 15 shots
- Kujala finished with a game-high four goals and an assist while Daly ended with three and one
