Box Score GORHAM, Maine - The Bowdoin women's ice hockey team jumped out to a 3-0 lead before the University of Southern Maine cut the deficit to one in the final period en route to a 4-2 Polar Bear victory on Tuesday night.
The win keeps the Polar Bears record unblemished at 3-0-2. The Huskies fall to 3-6-0, snapping a two-game win steak.
Game Highlights
- Marissa Fichter capitalized on a turnover in the Huskies' defensive zone in the waning minutes of the first period. Fichter notched an unassisted goal after beating Birtney Evangelista for the 1-0 lead.
- Just as the Bowdoin power play expired, Julie Dachille tipped a shot by Brigit Bergin past Evangelista to make it 2-0. The Polar Bears outshot the Huskies 14-1 in the opening period.
- The Polar Bears pushed their lead to three at 3:33 of the second period. Meade Avery whistled a wrist shot into the top of the net from 25 feet out for her first collegiate goal. Fichter and Cassidy Pratt picked up assists on the play.
- Southern Maine came out strong in the opening minutes of the third period, trimming the Polar Bears lead to one. Ally Vanidestine took a feed from Julia Ormsby and bested Kerri St. Denis for her first tally of the season just 18 seconds into the period.
- Meghan Concannon poked in the team's second of the game at 1:53 off a rebound from Jenson Hamblett.
- The Huskies nearly evened the game, but Emilee Burris' backhander rang off the crossbar.
- Maureen Greason iced the game for Bowdoin with 5:37 to play, burying her own rebound. Greason tipped a shot from Katie Leininger that was originally stopped by Evangelista's right pad. Greason lifted the rebound over the goalie for the team's fourth of the game.
