Bourque Scores with Seven Seconds Remaining to Upset Amherst

BRUNSWICK, Maine – Ariana Bourque scored with seven seconds remaining to end the Amherst women's ice hockey team's undefeated season and secure the Polar Bears 3-2 win.

Bowdoin collects its third consecutive victory to improve to 6-5-0 (3-2-0 NESCAC). Amherst suffers its first setback of the season to sit at 8-1-3 (4-1-2 NESCAC).

Game Highlights

  • Brenna Sullivan found the back of the net 1:50 into the second period. Sullivan tallied the unassisted mark after poking the puck home from the right post.
  • Bowdoin evened the game with a power play goal at 11:48 off the stick of Maureen Greason. Play started as Maryanne Iodice teed up a shot from the high slot, with Miranda Bell getting a touch to redirect the puck towards Greason on the left post.
  • Iodice gave Bowdoin its first lead of the evening with 59 seconds remaining in the second half on another power play goal. The sophomore collected a loose puck in the neutral zone and skated through four Amherst players before backhanding a shot top left shelf.
  • Amherst pushed throughout the third period, with Jocelyn Hunyadi taking a feed on the doorstep and getting off a quick one-timer that Crofton turned away.
  • Eileen Harris evened the game with less than three minutes remaining, capitalizing on a Bowdoin miscue in the crease.
  • Bell controlled the puck in the neutral zone and skated towards Amherst's end with Bourque waiting on-sides for her teammate. Bell continued to carry down the right side boards before centering to Bourque who skated on net. The senior captain drew Sabrina Dobbins and put away the game-winner with seven seconds remaining as she slid to the ice.
