VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Stevens Institute men's lacrosse team closed the game on an 8-2 run to rally for a 13-9 win over Bowdoin on Wednesday afternoon.

The Ducks improve to 3-3 this season while the Polar Bears drop to 1-4 overall.

Shawn Daly and Brandon Rothman scored two goals apiece for Bowdoin while Brandon Lee had a goal and three assists. Andrew Scrutchfield scored a game-high five goals for Stevens.

The Ducks jumped ahead to a 5-0 lead after 11 minutes of play, but the Polar Bears took over from there, scoring five straight goals, including two from Rothman, to deadlock the contest 5-5 at halftime. Bowdoin continued to roll in the opening minutes of the second half, taking a 7-5 lead on goals from Daly and Daniel Buckman early in the third period.

Stevens responded with five straight goals, four courtesy of Scutchfield, to take a 10-7 lead with 9:58 remaining. Lee made it 10-8 with a score at 9:36, but the Ducks put home the next three markers to put the contest out of reach.

Peter Mumford made 16 saves for Bowdoin while James Sessions had a team-best three caused turnovers. Robert Talcott won 13 of 24 face-offs and had five ground balls. Samuel Hodgson and Mac Caputi had four ground balls apiece.

The Polar Bears will return to action Saturday at Middlebury. Face-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
