Box Score WATERVILLE, Maine – The Colby women's ice hockey team scored 58 seconds into overtime to force a series split with Bowdoin on Saturday afternoon.
The Polar Bears and Mules each sit at 1-1-0 on the season, in both overall and NESCAC play.
How It Happened
- Miranda Bell scored 5:36 into the opening period, capitalizing on the power play. Maryanne Iodice and Maureen Greason tallied the assists.
- The Polar Bears had a two-player advantage on the second goal after back-to-back body checking penalties on Colby. Ariana Bourque pushed the puck across the crease where Jessica Bowen waited on the left post. Bowen scored at 8:18 when she was left alone and buried a shot from close range.
- Bella Papapetros scored her first of two goals off a second chance opportunity three minutes later.
- Sasha Fritts tied the game when she tipped in a hard shot from Anna Rudinski with just 1:30 left in the second period.
- The Mules went ahead for the first time on another Rudinski assist when her shot from the right point was deflected in by Papapetros at 6:05 of the third period.
- Bowdoin tied the game to force overtime with 7:42 remaining. Bowen intercepted a clearing pass, went in on goal, and lifted a backhand shot past Angelica Crites.
- Katie Tang scored under a minute into overtime, capitalizing on a shot from the left point, to end the game.
By the Numbers
- Colby held a slight 26-21 in shots as Lan Crofton made 22 stops for Bowdoin. Crites stopped 18 shots for Colby.
- The Mules were called for six penalties, with two Bowdoin goals coming off the power play. Colby was unable to convert on any of its five extra-skater opportunities.
- Papaetros and Bowen each tallied two goals.
