The Ephs jumped out to an early lead, similar to Friday night's contest, 35 seconds into the first period. Williams 1-0 edge came from Gwen Schultz and lasted nearly ten minutes until Bowdoin scored a shorthanded equalizer. Following a turnover in the neutral zone, Jessica Bowen collected the loose puck and skated into Ephs' territory on a breakaway. Coming right down the center, Bowen closed in on Christina Cleroux and buried a wrister top right shelf. The Ephs responded quickly with a power play goal less than 30 seconds later and their third just a minute after that. Emily Krueger gave the Ephs the 2-1 lead after putting in a rebound off Hanna Beattie's initial shot from the right point. The scoring concluded as Andree Heller slipped a rebound through the five-hole after Samantha Cutts did the work to carry the puck from her own defensive end. Beth Findley stuffed the initial shot as Cutts closed in on the crease, but Heller cleaned up the loose puck and slipped it between Findley's pads.
Williams took the 4-1 lead 4:31 in the middle frame, following a turnover in the Polar Bears' defensive end. Chelsey Stevenson raced a Bowdoin defender towards Findley from the blue line, managing to poke the free poke and find a gap in the pads. The hosts tacked on their fifth of the game following a takeaway in the right corner. Six minutes into the final period, Heller collected the puck and dished up ice to Gwen Schultz who's one-timer was too quick for Findley to readjust and cover the angle.
Findley played 46:28 in net for Bowdoin, stopping 21 shots for Bowdoin, before giving way to Lan Crofton who made six saves. Cleroux played 50:47 between the pipes for Williams and made 22 saves. Charlie Billadeau came in to finish the game and made four stops in relief.
The Polar Bears travel to Trinity next Friday for a weekend series against the Bantams beginning at 7:00 p.m. on February 6.
