Box Score MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – A late goal by Julie Dachille pushed the Bowdoin women's ice hockey team into overtime against Wesleyan on Friday night, ending in a 2-2 tie.
The Polar Bears rebound from a midweek loss to even out at 7-3-3 (3-1-1 NESCAC) while the Cardinals still hover below .500 at 5-6-1 (1-5-1 NESCAC).
Bowdoin tallied its first of the game with three minutes remaining in the opening period, off a shorthanded bid by Schuyler Nardelli. Set up by Maddie Baird, the senior knocked home a backhander from just off the crease for the 1-0 lead.
The Cardinals evened the game just under ten minutes into the middle frame from Ellary Sarosi. Sarosi scored through traffic directly off the faceoff with an assist from Jordan Schilhause. Wesleyan grabbed a late lead in the 16th minute of the third period off a goal from Jessica Brennan, who put away a loose puck during collapsed play in the crease. The Polar Bears answered right back with an equalizer 40 seconds later from Dachille. Kimmy Ganong took an initial shot that was denied by Corinne Rivard, only to have Dachille clean up the rebound for her team's second.
Bowdoin outshot Wesleyan, 4-1, aided by a Wesleyan penalty, in the five minute overtime period. Lan Crofton stopped 28 shots in a complete game for Bowdoin, matched by Rivard on the opposite end.
The two teams face off again tomorrow afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
