Men's Track & Field Wins First Home Meet of Winter

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College track and field teams enjoyed an impressive showing at their first indoor home meet of the winter on Saturday at Farley Field House.

The Polar Bear men were the class of a three-team field that included Connecticut College on Maine-Farmington, totaling 300 points to take an easy win over the Camels (107) and Beavers (41). Connecticut College (229.5) edged the Polar Bear women (217.5) with UMF (10) taking third place.

Addison Carvajal highlighted the day for Bowdoin by setting a new school record in the pentathlon with 3,517 points. She shattered the previous mark of 3,419 set in 1999 by Delia Van Lonen. Carvajal also won the high jump event with a height of 1.59 meters.

Emily Clark was also a multiple winner for Bowdoin women, taking first in the 200 meter dash (26.88) and 60 meter hurdles (9.75). Naomi Jabouin won the 400 meter dash (1:05.41) and Meghan Bellerose claimed the 600 meter run (1:41.90) while Brenna Fischer took the 3000 meter run (11:11.80). The Polar Bears swept the women's relay events, winning the 4x200 in 1:52.14 (Georgia Bolduc, Paola Maymi, Jabouin, Shekinah Pettway), the 4x400 in 4:19.85 (Maymi, Jabouin, Bellerose, Clark) and the 4x800 in 10:37.31 (Lucy Knowlton, Camille Wasinger, Alana Menendez, Sarah Kelley). 

In the field events, Erin Silva took the pole vault competition (3.67 meters) while Randi London claimed the shot put (11.81 meters). Pamela Zabala won the weight throw with a toss of 13.56 meters.

On the men's side the Polar Bears boasted several multiple winners. First-year Conor Donahue won a pair of events, taking both the 1000 meter run (2:43.29) and the mile run (4:27.32) for Bowdoin. Another first-year, Collin Litts, won both the high jump (1.80 meters) and triple jump (13.61 meters). Cam Woodford won both the shot put (13.16 meters) and weight throw (14.28 meters) for Bowdoin.

Other winners on the track included Jibrail Coy in the 60 meter dash (7.20), Jarred Kennedy-Loving in the 200 meters (23.31), Christian Sleeper in the 600 meters (1:28.16) and Nathaniel Kent in the 60 meter hurdles (8.88). In the field, Stephan DeCarlo won the long jump with a distance of 6.29 meters.

The Polar Bears will return to action next Saturday when they host an Invitational at Farley Field House beginning at 12:30 p.m.
