WATERVILLE, Maine - The Bowdoin College men's track and field team placed second at the Maine State Outdoor Track & Field Championship Saturday hosted by Colby College.
The Polar Bears, who boasted six state champions, totaled 166 points to trail only Bates (212) and easily out-pace Colby (113), Southern Maine (104) and St. Joseph's (18).
Bowdoin won every race over 800 meters on the afternoon, propelling them to the second-place showing. Jacob Ellis continued his dominance of the 800 meter race, winning at the wire in a time of 1:54.43. Coby Horowitz cruised to a first-place finish in the 1500 meters, finishing in a time of 3:57.86. Sam Seekins claimed the 5000 meter run in 15:02.96 while Avery Wentworth took the grueling 10,000 meters in a time of 32:14.52, just edging teammate Matt Jacobson by two seconds.
James Boeding captured the 3000 meter steeplechase in a time of 9:28.11 and Andrew Murowchick won the javelin throw with a toss of 50.81 meters, claiming the event by almost five full meters.
The Polar Bears will compete at the NESCAC Championship next Saturday, also hosted by Colby.
