Box Score RADNOR, Pa. - The Nazareth College men's lacrosse team pulled away in the fourth quarter to deal Bowdoin its first loss of the season in a 14-11 victory on Wednesday evening in a neutral-site contest played at Cabrini College.
The Flyers improve to 2-2 on the season while the 18th-ranked Polar Bears fall to 3-1.
Luke Wooters led Nazareth with five goals and two assists while Trevar Haefele scored four times with one assist. Troy Haefele dished out three assists to go with a pair of goals in the win.
David Nemirov scored three goals for Bowdoin. Franklin Reis had two goals and two assits while Will Wise added a pair of scores with an assist.
Tied 4-4 at halftime and 8-8 heading into the final quarter, the Flyers rolled off three goals to open the fourth period. Bowdoin's Peter Reuter trimmed the lead to 11-9 with 4:52 remaining, but consecutive goals by Drew Simoneau and Collin Clark for Nazareth pushed the lead to four goals, 13-9, with 2:33 to play.
Michael Cuciti made four saves for the Flyers. Connor Laughlin stopped nine shots and allowed 12 goals before giving way to Peter Mumford, who permitted two goals over the final 3:15.
Simoneau was critical to the Nazareth win, winning 22 of 29 faceoffs for the game. Jerry Chasteen had five ground balls and three caused turnovers for the Flyers. Bowdoin's Dan Hanley had a team-best five ground balls. Jack Carrier and Dylan Hannes had two caused turnovers each for the Polar Bears.
Bowdoin will return to action on Saturday at Hamilton at 1:00 p.m.
