BRUNSWICK, Maine – Ariana Bourque's third period goal provided an equalizer for the Bowdoin women's ice hockey team to tie UMass-Boston 2-2 on Tuesday evening.

The Polar Bears are 2-0-1 on the season while the Beacons collect their third consecutive tie of the year to open the season 5-1-3.

Bowdoin opened the game with a goal 5:07 into the first period on the Polar Bears third shot of the evening. Julie Dachille accounted for the second shot as she made a bid from just outside the crease that was denied by Moe Bradley, with Maureen Greason stuffing in the rebound off the left post. Bowdoin continued to apply pressure to the Beacons' defense, managing eight more shots in the period.

After a few promising scoring opportunities for the Polar Bears, it was UMass-Boston who would find the back of the net. The Beacons rattled off consecutive goals, within 41 seconds of each other, midway through the second period to take the lead. The scoring began as Jane Morrisette streaked down the left side and snuck a shot through Beth Findley's pads from the faceoff circle. UMass-Boston found the back of the net again as Jenny Currie finished off a scramble in front of the net to take the quick lead.

Under three minutes into the final frame the Polar Bears evened the score at 2-2. Marne Gallant carried the puck down into the Beacons' defensive zone and dished a pass to Maddie Baird along the left. As the puck slid over the line and past the goal, Baird backhanded a precision pass to Bourque for a one-timer to tie the game. Findley made a blocker save in the final seconds of the third period to send the game into overtime. The Beacons had a pair of promising scoring opportunities in the overtime period with the first coming from Alyssa Sullivan who deked a Bowdoin defender and managed a clean close-range shot on Findley. Their second opportunity came in the final minute with Kayla Kiernan taking a look at goal from the doorstep, only to have Findley turn the puck away.

The Beacons outshot Bowdoin by a 31-22 margin with Bradley collecting 20 saves. Findley made her season debut with a 29 save performance.

Bowdoin returns to Watson Arena for a 7:00 p.m. game against Holy Cross on Saturday evening. The Beacons host Colby on November 29 at 4:00 p.m.
