LEWISTON, Maine- The Bowdoin men's track and field team placed second at the 2013 Maine State Championship Saturday hosted by Bates.

The Polar Bears collected 177 points to earn the second place finish behind the Bobcats (263). Bowdoin outpaced the rest of the competition including Southern Maine (96), Colby (69), and St. Joseph's (5).

Sam Seekins, the victor in the 5000-meter run for Bowdoin, was named the winner of the Hillman Award as most valuable track athlete at the meet.

Chris Genco collected a pair of first place finishes for Bowdoin in the long jump (6.56 m) and high jump (1.93 m). Colby Horowitz clocked a time of 3:58.01 to win the 1500 meter race.

Bowdoin showed its depth with a 2-3-4 finish in the triple jump. Sam Chick (12.38 m), Eliot Bass (12.37 m), and Anthony Bellavia (12.35 m) combined for 18 points in the event. Greg Talpey (32.49.60) and Toby Zitman (32.51.17) took second and third in the 1000 m. Andrew Murowchick's javelin toss of 53.09 m also secured eight points for the Polar Bears. In the 200, Bowdoin's Jarred Kennedy-Loving came in second with a 22.94. James Boeding also was a top finisher for the team, collecting a second place finish in the steeplechase (9:31.99).

Bowdoin travels to Tufts for the NESCAC Championships on April 27.
