WATERVILLE, Maine - Bowdoin College placed second at the Men's Maine State Outdoor Track and Field Championship Saturday at Colby College.
The Polar Bears totaled 222 points, trailing only state champion Bates (235). Southern Maine (82.50) and Colby (74.50) placed second and third, respectively.
Chris Martin continued his recent string of strong performances by winning both the long jump (6.41 meters) and triple jump (13.89 meters) on Saturday. Sam Chick claimed the 400 meter hurdles (54.49) in a state championship meet record time, besting the former record held by Bowdoin's Greydon Foil (54.62).
Bowdoin went 1-2 in the 1500 meter run with Matthew Hillard winning (3:58.35) just .31 seconds ahead of Coby Horowitz. Samuel Seekins won the 5000 meter race (14:56.59) while Gregory Talpey took the 10,000 meters (32:55.52). James Boeding placed first for the Polar Bears in the 3000 meter steeplechase (9:26.09).
The Polar Bears also claimed the state crown in the 4x100 meter relay (43.41) courtesy of team members Rickey Larke, Matthew Gamache, Lonnie Hackett and Jarred Kennedy-Loving.
