BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's ice hockey team rallied from a two-goal first period deficit to complete a weekend sweep of Trinity with a 5-2 win on Saturday at Sidney J. Watson Arena.
Chelsea MacNeil had two goals and an assist for the surging Polar Bears, who improve to 10-7-3 (8-4-0 NESCAC) with their fourth consecutive win. The Bantams dip to 11-9-0 (6-6-0 NESCAC). Kayla Lessard stopped 25 shots in the win for Bowdoin.
Following Friday night's 5-0 loss, Trinity came out firing in the opening period on Saturday. Emily Kleidon picked up a loose puck in front and banged a shot past Lessard just 3:24 into the contest before Macauly Bauer capitalized on a 3-1 opportunity and blasted a slap shot to the top left corner at 11:47 that gave the Bantams a two-goal edge.
After pinning Trinity in their defensive zone to open the second period, Bowdoin finally found the back of the net and reduced their deficit to 2-1. Stephanie Ludy received a centering pass from Dominque Lozzi and scored between the legs of the Trinity's Alexa Pujol at 7:51. Bowdoin tied the game with Lozzi's quick shot off the face off, catching Trinity's Pujol off guard at 11:53. Bowdoin took the lead at 15:39 when Kayte Holtz forced a turnover deep in the zone and fed Chelsea MacNeil on the back door for the goal.
The Polar Bears increased their lead to 4-2 in the third period when Kim Tess-Wanat scored on a loose puck in front of the net at 4:59. After the fourth goal, Trinity replaced Alexa Pujol with Kristen Maxwell between the pipes. Chelsea MacNeil scored her second goal of the game increasing the Polar Bear lead to 5-2, scoring on a rebound shot past Maxwell at 12:11.
Pujol made 18 saves and allowed four goals in 44:59 for Trinity before Maxwell came in to stop six shots and permit one goal over the final 15:01.
