Men's Track Edges Bates to Win First State Championship Since 2009

LEWISTON, Maine - The Bowdoin College men's indoor track and field team won the Maine State Championship for the first time since 2009, edging Bates in a thrilling victory at Merrill Indoor Gymnasium Saturday evening.

Bowdoin scored 201 points to finish just ahead of Bates with 195. Colby came in third with 85 points, followed by the University of Southern Maine with 71.

Bowdoin's Matthew Hillard was named Most Valuable Athlete of the meet after wins in both the 800 meter run (1:56.45) and one mile run (4:17.12). Other Bowdoin winners in track events included Coby Horowitz in the 1000 meters (2:32.01) and Samuel Seekins in the 5000 meters (14:59.44).

In the field events, Chris Martin captured the triple jump with a distance of 13.21 meters.
