SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Behind a quartet of winning performances, the Bowdoin College men's track and field team placed fifth at the New England Division III Championship meet Saturday at Springfield College.
Coby Horowitz won the mile run for Bowdoin in a facility-record time of 4:13.05 to take first place. First-year Chris Genco continued his breakout campaign with a first-place showing in the high jump (1.94 meters), winning a jump-off to take the crown.
Bowdoin's distance relay team of Alex Williams, Malik McKnight, Isaac May and Horowitz took first in a track-record time of 10:18.80, just 1.74 seconds off of the New England record. James Boeding, Colin Ogilvie, Colin Fong and Matthew Hillard won the 4x800 meter relay for the Polar Bears in another track record time of 7:50.59, 1.46 seconds off of the New England mark.
Other strong showings for Bowdoin included Matt Hillard's second-place finish in the 1000 meters (2:29.11), Sam Chick taking fourth in the 600 meter run (1:22.53) and Sam Seekins placing fourth in the 5000 meters (15:06.29). The 4x400 meter relay team of Riker Wikoff, Brett Stein, Chick and Matthew Gamache finished in third place (3:25.85).
