HARTFORD, Conn. - The Trinity College men's lacrosse team tipped Bowdoin, 9-7, in a battle of NESCAC foes on Saturday afternoon in Hartford. The Bantams remain unbeaten this season at 3-0 (2-0 NESCAC) while the Polar Bears fall to 1-2 (0-1 NESCAC).
Jeff Hebert led Trinity with two goals while Steve Manning and Max Alderman had a goal and an assist each. Bowdoin received a pair of scores from Mark Flibotte with Russell Halliday and Patrick Lawlor pitching in a goal and an assist apiece.
Bowdoin led 3-1 early in the second period thanks to both of Flibotte's goals, but a four-goal surge by the Bantams gave the hosts the lead for good midway through the second period. Keegan Mehlhorn scored just before the break to make it 5-4 at intermission.
Trinity scored twice in the third quarter to up their lead to 7-4 heading into the final quarter. Bowdoin was able to trim the lead to a single goal twice in the fourth quarter, 7-6 on a Lawlor goal with 4:33 to go and, after a Trinity goal, 8-7 on a Brian Durkin score with 2:12 remaining.
Bowdoin could not get the equalizer past Trinity goaltender Peter Johnson, who made 16 saves. Jake McCampbell stopped 15 shots in the cage for Bowdoin. Trinity held a 45-40 edge in shots and a 14-6 lead in face-offs for the game. The Polar Bears got a game-high five ground balls from James Herter and four from Matthew Egan in the loss.
