BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin goaltender Tara Connolly made 30 saves to lead the Polar Bear women's ice hockey team to a 2-1 win over fifth-ranked Amherst on Saturday afternoon at Watson Arena. The win breaks a ten-game losing skid for the Polar Bears against the Jeffs, dating back to 2006-07. Bowdoin improves to 12-6-2 (7-4-1 NESCAC) while Amherst falls to 13-5-2 (11-2-1 NESCAC).

Stephanie Ludy and Kayte Holtz scored for Bowdoin while Shelagh Merrill added a pair of assists. Courtney Hanlon scored Amherst's lone tally in the loss.

Connolly made 11 saves in the first period to keep the game scoreless, setting up the game's first goal midway through the second period. Ludy gave Bowdoin a 1-0 lead with a wrap-around goal at 10:17. The Polar Bears increased their lead to 2-0 when Holtz banged in a rebound off a shot from the left point by Merrill.  Amherst  was able to answer late in the third period when Courtney Hanlon scored a rebound goal off a shot from Stephanie Clegg. The Jeffs could not find the equalizer, however, as the Polar Bears skated to victory.

Caroline Hu had 17 saves in the loss for the Jeffs. Bowdoin improves to 23-10-1 all-time against Amherst, having won all 22 meetings prior to the 11-game winless streak snapped on Saturday. 

Bowdoin returns to action next week when they travel down to Connecticut to play Wesleyan Friday night at 7 pm.
