BRUNSWICK, Maine –Dominique Lozzi scored a pair of goals and goaltender Tara Connolly stopped 24 shots to lead the fourth-seeded Bowdoin College women's ice hockey team to a 2-1 win over fifth-seeded Connecticut College in the quarterfinals of the NESCAC Tournament Saturday at Sidney J. Watson Arena. The Polar Bears (15-8-2) advance to play in the semifinals next Saturday against top-seeded Middlebury College.
The Camels finish their season with a record of 12-11-2.
The Camels got on the board first just 4:56 into the contest at Kourtney Martin knocked home a loose puck in front of the crease to give the visitors a one-goal lead. Bowdoin was able to even the score later in the frame when Dominique Lozzi put home a rebound off a Madeline Lane shot at 15:17 to even the score after one period.
After a scoreless second period, Bowdoin earned a 5x3 power play early in the third frame and converted when Lozzi poked home her second goal of the contest at 5:14 to give the Polar Bears a one-goal advantage. Samantha Shuffenecker made a bid to tie the game with seven minutes to go, but Bowdoin goalie Tara Connolly made a nifty kick save to maintain the one-goal advantage.
The Camels pulled netminder Amy Leichliter with just under two minutes to play, but could not find the equalizer as Connolly finished with 24 stops, including 18 over the final two periods. Leichliter finished with 17 stops for the Camels, who went 0-3 on the power play. Saturday's contest was the third one-goal game between the two teams this year, who had split the regular season series one apiece.
