Bowdoin Mounts Third Period Rally to Take 2-2 Tie at Salve Regina

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. - The Bowdoin College women's ice hockey team scored a pair of third-period goals to rally for a 2-2 tie at Salve Regina on Friday evening.

The Polar Bears, who have played three overtime games in five matches this season, stand at 1-2-2 this year. Bowdoin will travel to play at defending national champion Norwich on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.

After a scoreless opening period, Salve Regina (3-2-2) got a second-period goal from Sarah McCusker and doubled its lead early in the third on a goal from Taylor Shepherd with 15:20 to go.

Bowdoin answered quickly as Kenzie Novak scored just 21 seconds later to draw the Polar Bears within a goal. Stephanie Ludy and Alexandra Chlebeck notched assist on the play. The Polar Bears deadlocked the game 81 seconds later when Kayle Holtz took a feed from Dominique Lozzi for the game-tying goal with 13:38 left.

The Polar Bears dominated the pace of play, holding a 36-19 advantage in shots. Kayla Lessard, making her first start of the year, stopped 17 shots for Bowdoin. Rebecca Simmons stopped 34 shots for the Seahawks.
