BRUNSWICK, Maine - Jill Campbell and Kayte Holtz scored two goals apiece to lead the Bowdoin College women's ice hockey team to a 6-1 win over Wesleyan University on Friday evening at Sidney J. Watson Arena. The Polar Bears improve to 9-5-1 (6-3-0 NESCAC) with the victory while
the Cardinals drop to 2-10-1 (0-7-0 NESCAC).
Holtz added an assist to her two goals while Emily Tang and Stephanie Ludy also scored for Bowdoin. Molly Friedemann scored the lone goal for Wesleyan.
After dominating in the early-going, Tang got Bowdoin on the board with a nice shot from the left circle over the right shoulder of goaltender Ashleigh Corvi with 6:22 left in the first period. Corvi kept the Cardinals in the game through the first period, making 20 saves in the frame. Campbell deflected home a shot from Chelsea Young at 6:12 of the second period to double Bowdoin's lead before Holtz finished a breakaway with a goal glove-side to give the hosts a 3-0 lead heading into the final period.
Campbell's second goal came on the power play at 7:28 of the third to make it 4-0 Bowdoin. Friedemann got the Cardinals on the board off a rebound at 8:12 before Holtz and Ludy rounded out the scoring with power play goals 1:16 apart late in the stanza.
Sage Santangelo made 11 saves for Bowdoin while Corvi finished with 48 for Wesleyan. Bowdoin went 3-5 on the power play in the victory.
