BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Trinity College men's lacrosse team
scored their first win over Bowdoin since 2004, 10-8 over the Polar
Bears in NESCAC action on Saturday afternoon at Ryan Field. The
Bantams improve to 2-1 (1-1 NESCAC) while Bowdoin (1-3, 1-1 NESCAC)
has lost three straight.
Harper Cullen led all scorers with three goals for the Bantams
while Max Alderman added a goal and two assists. Nathan Fritts (two
goals, one assist) and Owen Smith (two goals) paced the Polar
Bears.
An evenly-matched game saw the score tied after one quarter (1-1)
and at halftime (4-4) with neither team opening up more than a
one-goal advantage either way until early in the fourth quarter.
Leading 7-6 heading into the final period, a 3-0 spurt, keyed by
goals from Jeff Hebert, Andrew Williamson and Cullen, gave the
visitors a 9-6 lead with 11 minutes to play.
Bowdoin made a bid to get back into the contest when Smith notched
his second goal of the day with 5:41 to play, but Cullen countered
with a goal at 2:17 to seal the win for Trinity.
Peter Johnson stopped 10 shots in the win for the Bantams, who
picked up just their fourth win all-time against Bowdoin (4-32).
Jake McCampbell collected eight stops in goal for the Polar
Bears.
