BOX SCORE
DALLAS, Texas - Tim Santye scored the game-winner with 2:19 left
in the second overtime period as the Western New England College
men's lacrosse team upset 12th-ranked Bowdoin 11-10 Monday evening
at Parish Episcopal School. The Polar Bears dip to 1-1 this season
while the Golden Bears improve to 3-2 on the season.
The loss spoiled a career-high four-goal effort from Polar Bear
senior Steve Thomas. Joe O'Keefe led all scorers with four goals
and two assists for Western New England.
Down 6-2 late in the first half, Bowdoin rallied to go on a 7-1
run over a ten-minute span to carry a 9-7 lead into the fourth
quarter. Thomas sparked the run with a late goal before halftime
and the opening tally of the third. Thomas added two more late in
the period as Bowdoin seemed to be in command.
But WNEC recovered to score three straight to open the final frame
and take a 10-9 advantage into the closing moments. Adam Tracy came
up big for Bowdoin in the final minutes, scoring a goal with just
1:53 to force overtime. After a scoreless first OT session,
Santye's second goal of the game found the back of the net at 2:19
to give the Golden Bears the victory.
Jake McCampbell stopped 10 shots between the pipes for Bowdoin,
who won 18 of 26 face-offs thanks to Greg Kamford (10-12) and Brian
Durkin (8-14). Henry Andrews and Tracy led the Polar Bears with
five ground balls apiece. Brewster Knowlton stopped 15 shots in the
win for Western New England.
