BOSTON, Mass. - The Bowdoin College women's ice hockey team was
held scoreless for the first time this season, dropping a 3-0
decision to Trinity in the opening day of the Codfish Bowl hosted
by UMass-Boston on Saturday. The Polar Bears (4-3-1) see their
four-game unbeaten streak come to an end in the loss.
Bowdoin will play Lake Forest in the consolation match of the
tournament on Sunday at noon.
Senior goaltender Isabel Iwachiw made 24 saves to record her third
shutout of the season and 14th of her career to lead Trinity to the
win. Following a scoreless period, junior defenseman Laura Komarek
and junior forward Kim Weiss combined to set up sophomore forward
Brigitte Cellino for her first goal of the season on the power play
at 6:49 of the second period to put the Bantams on the board.
Junior forward Jill Roloff padded the Trinity lead with her fourth
tally of the year coming on a slap shot from the top of the left
circle with just 23 seconds left in the middle period for a 2-0
margin.
Sophomore forward Celia Colman-McGaw capped the scoring with an
insurance goal for the Bantams coming on an unassisted score for
her fourth marker of the campaign at 5:06 of the third period.
Bowdoin was called for nine penalties on the afternoon to
Trinity's three, but permitted just one powerplay goal in
eight chances. Sophomore goalie Sage Santangelo stopped 26 shots
for the Polar Bears.
