BOX SCORE
BRUNSWICK, Maine - Michaela Calnan and Stephanie Ludy scored to
lead the Bowdoin College
women's ice hockey team to a 2-0 victory over Hamilton on Saturday
afternoon at Sidney J. Watson Arena. The Polar Bears improve to
6-6-2 this season while the Continentals drop to 4-6-2 overall.
After a scoreless first period that featured a sizable 14-6 shot
advantage for the hosts, Bowdoin was able to get on the board when
Calnan finished off a puck in front at 9:52 of the second period.
The Polar Bears made a bid to add to their advantage late in the
period when Hamilton's Riley Smith was called for tripping,
resulting in a penalty shot for Bowdoin's Kayte Holtz. But Hamilton
netminder Becca Hazlett swept aside the chance to keep the deficit
at one goal.
Bowdoin sealed the win late in the third period when Shelagh
Merrill took control of the puck in the corner and fed a cross-ice
pass to Ludy on the far post with 6:27 left. Kayla Lessard posted
her second shutout of the season by making 16 saves for the Polar
Bears. Hazlett finished with 35 stops for the Continentals in the
loss.
