BOX SCORE
BRUNSWICK, Maine – Erin Davey scored the game-winning goal
with 6:20 remaining to give the Connecticut College women's
ice hockey team a 3-2 win over Bowdoin College on Friday evening at
Sidney J. Watson Arena. The Camels avenge an early-season loss to
the Polar Bears and improve to 3-10-1 (2-6-1 NESCAC) while the
Polar Bears fall to 5-6-2 (3-2-1 NESCAC).
Bowdoin opened the scoring in the first period as Shelagh Merrill
fought for a loose puck along the boards and found Dominique Lozzi
in front, who backhanded a shot inside the left post to give the
Polar Bears a 1-0 lead just 5:49 into the game. The Camels were
able to tie the score seven minutes later, taking advantage of a
5x3 powerplay as Ashleigh Kowtoniuk redirected a shot in front to
knot the score at 11:22. The Camels used another powerplay chance
later in the frame to take the lead, as Jillian Dolliff pounced on
a rebound at 16:02.
After a scoreless second period, Bowdoin dominated the pace of
play to open the third period and finally converted when Jill
Campbell picked up the puck behind the cage and wrapped-around the
game-tying tally with 11:51 to go. The Camels responded with 6:20
remaining when Kelsey Kirker picked up a turnover in the neutral
zone and fed a nifty cross-ice one-timer to Erin Davey, who
deposited the go-ahead goal inside the right post.
Bowdoin's best chance to tie came with just under two
minutes to play when Kayte Holtz had two bids to deadlock the game,
the second of which was stopped by a sprawling save courtesy of
Sara Christopher.
Christopher made 18 saves between the pipes for the Camels. Kayla
Lessard collected 20 stops for the Polar Bears.
